That list has nothing to do with being able to query or decompress. That is
simply a list of file extensions the file system will use to determine whether
or not to use MapR's native filesystem compression.
.tgz is not a compression codec that Drill understands or can work with.
The only compression codecs that work with Drill out of the box are gz, and
bz2. Additional codecs can be added by including the relevant libraries in the
Drill classpath.
