Sudheesh Katkam commented on DRILL-2288:
----------------------------------------

Here's another test case:

Create an empty hive table. And then:
{code}
0: jdbc:drill:> select * from hive.nation;
+--+
|  |
+--+
+--+
No rows selected (0.789 seconds)
{code}
However,
{code}
0: jdbc:drill:> SELECT COLUMN_NAME, DATA_TYPE FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'nation' AND TABLE_SCHEMA = 'hive.default';
+--------------+--------------------+
| COLUMN_NAME  |     DATA_TYPE      |
+--------------+--------------------+
| n_nationkey  | INTEGER            |
| n_name       | CHARACTER VARYING  |
| n_regionkey  | INTEGER            |
| n_comment    | CHARACTER VARYING  |
+--------------+--------------------+
4 rows selected (10.363 seconds)
{code}

> ResultSetMetaData not set for zero-row results
> (DatabaseMetaData.getColumns(...)) [ScanBatch problem]

> The ResultSetMetaData object from getMetadata() of a ResultSet is not set up
> (getColumnCount() returns zero, and trying to access any other metadata
> throws IndexOutOfBoundsException) for a result set with zero rows, at least
> for one from DatabaseMetaData.getColumns(...).
