Can't reproduce the issue.
Json file:
{noformat}
{ "a": { "b": { "c": [ { "d": { "e": "f" } } ] } } }
{ "a": { "b": { "c": [] } } }
{noformat}
Query:
{code:sql}
select count(*) from (select FLATTEN(t.a.b.c) AS c from
dfs.`/home/files/flat.json` t) flat WHERE flat.c.d.e = 'f' limit 1;

Result:
