   # [DRILL-7561](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DRILL-7561): Document
authentication for REST API

   ## Description

Add documentation for current and near-future REST API authentication /
authorization mechanism. This didn't seem to be clearly documented before -
the documentation mostly seemed to assume the drill server did not require and
authentication.

> Project: Apache Drill
> Issue Type: Improvement
> Components: Documentation
> Affects Versions: 1.17.0
> Reporter: Dobes Vandermeer
> Priority: Major
>
> The REST API document does not describe how to authenticate requests.  It
> does have a section on how to impersonate users when authentication is
> disabled.
>
> It would be great to have this information clearly documented in the REST API
> Introduction.
