This issue was fixed in the new version of Drill which is about to be released.
Specifically in DRILL-7495 [1]. Also in Drill 1.18, (DRILL-7641) we switched
to a streaming reader [2] for Excel files which means that you can read files
of any size without issues.
We just approved the release candidate RC0 for Drill 1.18 yesterday which you
can download here [3]. Could you try this out and report back as to whether it
solved the issue?
