Aira Jena commented on FINERACT-2439:
-------------------------------------

Thanks for explaining, [~jdailey] — that helps, and I appreciate the
clarification.

Just to be upfront, I’m interested in applying for GSoC 2026, and this
Self-Service API / BFF idea is something I’m genuinely excited about working
on. I understand that FINERACT-2439 is meant specifically for GSOC proposals,
and I respect keeping that space reserved for candidates.

As you suggested, I’ll go ahead and create a separate ticket for any early,
pre-GSoC work I can contribute — mainly around design, scoping, and breaking
the problem down into smaller pieces. I’ll keep it focused on groundwork only
and avoid stepping into GSOC proposal space.

I agree this is a fairly large effort and would benefit from being split up and
possibly involving multiple people. I’m happy to start with design and see what
follow-on work naturally comes out of that.

Thanks again for the guidance — looking forward to contributing and staying
involved as we head toward GSOC 2026.

> h3. *Build a Self-Service API Component that Connects to Apache Fineract*
> When the project removed self-service APIs in 2025, it did so understanding
> that we would need an outside component to make that connection as part of an
> overall solution.
> This project is to create - as a Proof of Concept (POC) - a new dedicated
> Self-Service API component or service that integration with Fineract backend.
>  It will need to expose APIs to consumer facing applications for typical
> activities like viewing account balances, transaction initiation, loan
> application, etc.
> The idea is for GSOC candidates to propose a design and build the POC.
> Minimal criteria include testing, authentication methodology, documentation.
> Not included in this GSOC would be the end consumer APP, although that may be
> undertaken by another project and coordination would be needed.
