I'm not pulling in mockito-all, just mockito-core (and a more recent version). 
Also, I'm not pulling in flink-runtime or flink-test-utils; just flink-java and 
flink-clients (in addition to flink-streaming-java). BTW, I got to this point 
by trial and error since the sample pom.xml doesn't yield access to this test 
code.

It looks like the mockito version was the issue (though I'm not sure why), as 
using mockito-core-1.10.19 allows this test to pass. We had added that 
dependency for an unrelated unit test. Do you think this bears further research?
