This is a super critical issue. It requires good understanding of how the 
checkpointing and recovery works, and what can be considered deterministic 
across retries.

Make the effort to write a brief design down how you want to do this.
Otherwise you run a high risk of spending a lot of work on something that is 
not reliable enough to be merged.
