I would also like to see this merged. I'm planning to use it and afaik some
other users too.
I think having it in flink-contrib would be nice because a. it's more
visible than in a user's fork/repository, b. everybody can contribute back
improvements here (via PRs and some more eyes of the Flink community) and c.
it'll at least receive the automatic changes from tool-based modifications in
Flink's core.
