Since the beginning we were pretty sure that the BulkWriter API should be
extended. It is just that we were waiting to see how.
I am not so familiar with the specifics of ORC but if you are planning to work
on this, you can start writing a design doc that also describes the
shortcomings that you encountered and we can discuss on the solutions as soon
as we understand the problem.
If you think that you do not want to do that, then feel free to unassign the
issue from you.
