zentol commented on issue #7980: [FLINK-11913] Shadding cassandra driver dependencies in cassandra conector URL: https://github.com/apache/flink/pull/7980#issuecomment-477212417 core and driver are bundled so that we can relocate their guava and netty dependencies as these frequently lead to dependency clashes. This isn't uncommon for Flink connectors. It's not strictly necessary but we've had enough users run into these issues that we deemed it necessary to fix on our side. Changing this now could lead to broken setups. We could think about releasing a slim version as well, but tbh I don't really wanna go down that route since it's a pain to manage. Outside of changing things on the side of Flink your options are: 1. match your version with the one used by Flink 2. create a wrapper project around the connector that applies the proposed relocation 3. build the connector yourself against the version you need (`-Ddriver.version=X.X.X`).
