Armstrong Nova commented on FLINK-12423:
----------------------------------------
Hi [~Zentol] , we use open-falcon ([https://github.com/open-falcon]) as metric
monitor system. It's basic time unit is nanosecond. When we use set Timer with
minute time unit, for example 10 minutes, it will convert to 10*60*10^9
nanosecond, and send to outside metric systems. It will easier to achieve this
result, otherwise we need to multiply 10^9 every time we call it.
> Add Timer metric type for flink-metrics module

> Hi guys,
> Currently, Flink only support 4 registering metrics, {{Counters}},
> {{Gauges}}, {{Histograms}} and {{Meters}}. If we want to measure the time
> cost metric, for example P75th, P99th, P999th, right now can only use
> Histograms metric. But Histograms metric not support TimeUnit type (second,
> millisecond, microsecond, nanosecond). So it's not convenient to collaborate
> with outside metric system.
> The Codahale/DropWizard support Time meter, so we can wrap it in Flink.
