Yingjie Cao commented on FLINK-12070:
-------------------------------------

For the benchmark, I use the same taskmanager setting for all the test cases,
for the high parallelism cases and the cases with large number of slots per
taskmanager, too few network memory does not work. Though 5G network memory is
given, there is still enough (more than 100G) memory left  outside the jvm
process.

I agree that it is uncommon to use 5G network memory, but if there are enough
resources, the spillable subpartition can make better use of them.

It is a good choice to offer several difference ways of writing/reading data
and let the user make the decision.

> In order to avoid writing produced results multiple times for multiple
> consumers and in order to speed up batch recoveries, we should make the
> blocking result partitions to be consumable multiple times. At the moment a
> blocking result partition will be released once the consumers has processed
> all data. Instead the result partition should be released once the next
> blocking result has been produced and all consumers of a blocking result
> partition have terminated. Moreover, blocking results should not hold on slot
> resources like network buffers or memory as it is currently the case with
> {{SpillableSubpartitions}}.
