From the planner perspective catalog is just a single part of a schema. I was asking strictly about the HiveCatalog. I think this is a really common use case. Usually you have schema registry for kafka topics and hive metastore for static/batch tables. I think it will be one of the most common use case to support e.g. joins between those catalogs. But if you are saying that there is no problem to store a view that hive does not understand than it should be fine.
