sorry, I didn't want to put you under pressure for resolving the issue. There
is no deadline ;)
It seems that Confluent hasn't published any artifacts in maven central
(http://search.maven.org/#search%7Cga%7C1%7Cconfluent) that's probably why the
dependency resolution fails.
I think you have to implement your own serialization schema for Kafka (maybe
there is something in the web that you can re-use?)
