I don't think it is not a clean solution to extend a CompressionCodec just to
implement the Serializable interface. We then have to document it somewhere so
that the people who use it are aware. However, I agree with the point you made
in my my PR ([#11307|https://github.com/apache/flink/pull/11307]) about the way
codec extension is getting handled. I have now updated my PR with the needed
change.
