   2. `INVALID_SUBPARTITION_INDEX` -> `UNKNOWN_SUBPARTITION_INDEX`?
   
   I guess it would be nicer to avoid using some magic constants, but to just 
keep `requestMemorySegment()` without the `subpartitionIndex` parameter besides 
a version with the parameter, but I don't see how this could be done without 
duplicating quite a bit of code.
