There were duplicate exclusions in the pom.xml. This fixes the webhdfs API
issue but it doesn't solve the problem entirely. Not every class references by
classes in the parent classloader may be available. Is it possible to relocate
hadoop classes as well and let users pack-in the hadoop jars in the application
itself?
