Timo Walther commented on FLINK-18802:
--------------------------------------
The reason why Avro is not included has historical reasons because Avro was
part of the Flink dist in the past. Another thing to consider is which version
would we add? And when do we update the Avro version? Nowadays we let users
choose which version they need for their data. I'm fine with adding a default
Avro version but we should think about the side effects (a version flink-avro
module?).

> Currently users have to provide dependencies such as avro, jackson-core-asl,
> jackson-mapper-asl and joda-time in the job jar for DataStream jobs, or
> manually copy them into flink/lib in SQL jobs when using avro formatting.
> It's better to generate an uber jar including these dependencies when
> packaging flink-avro module.
