We currently use Kafka 2.4.1:

Which is one of the latest versions that we can use. Starting with Kafka
2.5.0, the Kafka project does not release binaries for Scala 2.11 anymore but
we still provide Flink builds for Scala 2.11 (and 2.12). Before we can update
to Kafka 2.5.0 and beyond, we need to stop making releases for Scala 2.11.
