The test issue mentioned above was resolved by enabling checkpoints after a 
task finished 
({{config.set(ExecutionCheckpointingOptions.ENABLE_CHECKPOINTS_AFTER_TASKS_FINISH,
 true);}}, 
[FLINK-147|https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/FLINK/FLIP-147%3A+Support+Checkpoints+After+Tasks+Finished]).
 The simple job was executed through one task only whereas the parallelism was 
set to 6. Either reducing the parallelism or enabling the already mentioned 
flag would result in data being processed. :+1:
