Using anything but a simple wrapper around a HashMap (what the MetricConfig
currently is) is overkill. We would have a bunch of methods without an actual
use-case cluttering up the interface.
If we have to extend `Properties` and add methods for it to become usable,
why use it in the first place? What do we gain by using it?
