existing implementation. We already have a standardized interface for 
connectors (FLIP-27 for Source API

 and FLIP-143 for Unified Sink API 
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/FLINK/FLIP-143%3A+Unified+Sink+API).
 The ASync API uses FLIP-143 already.
