[~shengkai] could you find an owner for this ticket? It seems the gateway still
uses `DataFormatConverters` instead of `DataStructureConverters`. For proper
structured type support, DataStructureConverters is a better fit. And it seems
it relies on object mapper instead of implementing a custom serialization which
makes support difficult.
