Merged a first fix with c7d683c9bf6118e06ac8c27674892ae19e0ad992.
The fix assumes that {{NoResourceAvailableException}} is temporary and a better
test design with more retries will just help.
If {{NoResourceAvailableException}} is actually a different issue we will need
another fix. But at this point, it's a bug that is (most likely) unrelated to
unaligned checkpoints.
