Martijn Visser reopened FLINK-38485:
------------------------------------
Assignee: Martijn Visser (was: Etienne Chauchot)

Reopening, the fix only works on Flink versions that ship commons-compress 1.24
or older. Flink 1.19.3 (and 1.20) bring commons-compress 1.26.0, which declares
commons-codec as optional. Since we exclude the commons-compress from
Testcontainers, nothing puts commons-codec on the test classpath and every
ITCase fails in CassandraTestEnvironment#startUp with the same
NoClassDefFoundError on org/apache/commons/codec/Charsets. This is also why the
weekly kept failing after the merge. Adding commons-codec as a test dependency
fixes it; tested locally on 1.18.1 and 1.19.3.

> NoClassDefFound org/apache/commons/codec/Charsets
> Seem to be thrown by
> org.apache.flink.connector.cassandra.CassandraTestEnvironment#startUp
> See:
> Also I noticed in local that the tests take too long to run, certainly due to
> the fact that the test environment with test containers is started with each
> test.
