raminqaf opened a new pull request, #29783:
URL: https://github.com/apache/flink/pull/29783
## What is the purpose of the change
FLIP-604 added the `UUID` type in 2.4, but the data types page does not
describe it yet. This adds the missing section, so users and the 2.4 release
testers (FLINK-41144) have a reference.
```sql
SELECT UUID 'A0EEBC99-9C0B-4EF8-BB6D-6BB9BD380A11'; --
a0eebc99-9c0b-4ef8-bb6d-6bb9bd380a11
SELECT CAST('a0eebc999c0b4ef8bb6d6bb9bd380a11' AS UUID); --
a0eebc99-9c0b-4ef8-bb6d-6bb9bd380a11
SELECT CAST(UUID 'a0eebc99-9c0b-4ef8-bb6d-6bb9bd380a11' AS BYTES); --
x'a0eebc999c0b4ef8bb6d6bb9bd380a11'
```
## Brief change log
- New `UUID` section in `data-types.md`, after `BITMAP`: declaration, JVM
bridging, literal, `UUID_V4()` and `UUID_V7()`, casts, and ordering.
- `UUID` row and column in the cast matrix, with a note that a binary cast
needs exactly 16 bytes.
- `UUID` in the list of data types.
- The same changes in the Chinese page, in English like the `VARIANT`
section.
Two points reviewers might ask about:
- Bridging lists `java.util.UUID` and `byte[]` only. FLIP-604 also names
`String`, but `UuidType` does not support it, so the docs follow the code.
- The literal takes only the hyphenated form, while `CAST` from a string
also accepts braces and missing hyphens. The docs point to `CAST` for those
forms.
## Verifying this change
Docs only. I ran every SQL example and every new cast-matrix cell against a
2.4-SNAPSHOT build. I did not build the site locally.
