Matt Kalinowski created GEODE-3099:
--------------------------------------

Summary: Launching Geode on Windows from nested subdirectories can
fail due to file path length
                 Key: GEODE-3099
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GEODE-3099
             Project: Geode
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: docs, general
            Reporter: Matt Kalinowski

When launching Geode on Windows from gfsh.bat, if the root Geode directory is
nested inside of subdirectories instead of something short, such as C:\geode,
then the autogenerated files (such as those for REST), will be inaccessible due
to path-length restrictions in Windows.

While an error message describing the known issue would be nice, due to the
nature of this restriction and behavior, an improvement in the docs to indicate
this may be an issue (and to use the --dir flag to workaround Windows-specific
limitations) would alleviate a lot of strain encountered when trying to use
Geode on Windows.
