We need to reduce memory requirements for a Lucene index.
Most of the extra memory is consumed by tombstones created by Apache Lucene
generating many temporary 'files' (up to 10 per entry).
We need a way to provide accelerated GC for these tombstones. It has been
suggested that, rather than doing something specific for Lucene, a more general
solution is to add the ability to tune GC on a per region basis.
