Mark Bretl commented on GEODE-1259:
-----------------------------------
The initial thought behind a required version and the wrapper version was to
catch those people using an older version of gradle which was failing to build.
At the time of testing other intermediate versions between 2.3 and 2.8, I
didn't see any compile errors however much has changed since then and it may
not work any more. It would probably be better practice to keep required
version and wrapper version at the same version.
I don't see how GEODE-1085 is related to this bug. The other is specifically
about an issue with Gradle not creating the correct Java language level for
IntelliJ and other IDEs.
I can't find any other open bug on updating the version of Gradle.
> Required gradle is 2.3 but the wrapper is targeting 2.8

> This needs to be fixed since Gradle 2.7 (and I suspect earlier versions) are
> failing the build with a very cryptic notice.
