When a user wants to insert a table in Impress in an empty slide that has the
maximum number of columns and rows (75,75), Impress stops responding and the
only way to use the application again is end the process of the application
through task manager or force the application to close after clicking on the
window close button and restart the application.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit and Open Office version 3.3.0
OOO330m20 (Build:9567).
Steps to replicate the bug:
1. Open Impress with a new empty slide.
2. From Insert menu, choose Table
3. Type 75 for both number of columns and rows, click OK.
My laptop configurations are an Intel Core 2Due 2.2 GHz processor with 4MB
cache and 3GB RAM. I did more test using less row numbers; I used 75 columns
and 20 rows. It took Open Office more than two minutes to create the table.
Further, I used 75 columns and 30 rows and it took Open Office more than 5
minutes to create the table Impress also became very slow to respond as whole.
This bug could cost the user time spent on making changes to the presentation
if the user will lose changes made to the slides before inserting the table and
not saving these changes because of forcing the application to close after
becoming not responsive. Impress becomes totally slow to any modification to
the table like, moving or deleting the table. This is very annoying to the user
and could be a cause for the user to switch to other products since showing
tables in presentations is essential to many users to show readable data on a
table form. Large table may be used to print slides on posters.
