Lars George commented on HBASE-8828:
------------------------------------
Hey [[email protected]], I am not sure I understand why this is a failed
effort. Reading Karthik's email, he just makes a point to bypass Thrift all
together, so that a client can talk natively to the APIs - which is now
possible since we use ProtoBufs everywhere. But for those not using that path,
but need to use REST or Thrift as a gateway, why is embedding the ThriftServer
a failed effort? Could you kindly clarify?

> HBASE-4460 adds the ability to start an embedded Thrift server inside a
> RegionServer. Port it to Thrift 2, or make it optional which it starts.
