The fn call looks better, I was thinking more along the lines of calling
something on Order that would do both assert and return the correct order, not
sure about performance implications of that...
As for bits, nevermind, I am not used to bit operations on signed types, didn't
realize >> won't fill with zeros but rather with a sign bit
