Long time ago, it 'made sense' that we note the comparator used writing the
file so the reader used same.
bq. Beyond Meta Key and a normal Key, is there external uses of his that I'm
not aware of that I may break? (Phoenix?)
No. Way too exotic for outside clients to even know this facility even existed.
