The secret cast method exists -- it is KeyValueUtil.ensureKeyValue(Cell). The
problem has to do with generic aggregate types with a type parameter.
For example this code in in invalid:
{code}
List<Cell> foo == ...;
List<KeyValue> bar = foo; // compile time fail.
{code}
Essentially the inefficiency come with a copy necessary for doing this.
{code}
List<Cell> foo == ...;
List<KeyValue> bar = foo; // no good. see [1]
