Direct test coverage over the data types API is minimal. Existing tests cover
the underlying encoding mechanisms and the {{Struct}} components, but that's
about it. We should expand on the test coverage, something like what Orderly
accomplishes with its api-driven harness for generating random values and
verifying them.
