Jean-Marc Spaggiari commented on HBASE-9599:
--------------------------------------------
I see, but why do we have all those different tests without anything to
"aggregate" them?
Like:
PerformanceEvaluation --HFile --TheRightParameters
PerformanceEvaluation --HLog --TheRightParameters
PerformanceEvaluation --Compaction --TheRightParameters
and so on. So we keep a standard entry point for the performances tests. That
way a simple:
PerformanceEvaluation --list
Will provide the list of all the existing performances tests. And if someone
what to add one, there is a nice place to add it to.
PE was just an example, but might be good to have a place where we put all the
perfs tests together.

> Ideally we'd have a suite of tests that you could run against hbase
> subcomponents comparing performance at the below-macro scale. This is an
> issue to make a list of components and existing tests to use:
> + CompactionTool is a standalone tool for running compactions
> + HLogPerformanceEvaluation can run lots of concurrent threads doing WAL
> appends
