Hmm... let me try to repro tomorrow.
I think there might be a straightforward race between setting action counter
and notifying the waiting thread, and conversion; probably some sync is
necessary. So conversion is done but the other thread sees unconverted
result... But I'm not sure now.
Maybe error should be put in front of the function, still, to make sure we
don't get extra calls now.
