So I guess we could commit this to 0.94 and 0.96, and file yet another issue
for 0.98 and trunk.
Since the NPE is thrown from
{{PrefixKeyDeltaEncoder.addKV(PrefixKeyDeltaEncoder.java:70)} it looks to me
like this is a genuine (and very disconcerting) bug in 0.98 and later.
