[~lars_francke] has a thread going on dev@ where they're starting to prune
these off.
The way I read the ref guide, deprecated in 1.0.0 would mean that it's
deprecated for 1.y as "one major release", which would mean removal in 2.0 is
fine. This is what I told Lars F on the thread, so if we want to be more
conservative someone should chime in.
