I think it's just that we don't have a post-commit test that checks java 6.
I'll make a note to add one.
(javadoc warnings are just lack of accounting for the 0.98 branch.)
I didn't want to expand the access of the Bytes reference just for a test,
since Bytes is IA.Public.
