I believe so yes. I haven't looked at our compatibility guide re: dependency
libraries. It may be that we can backport it to unreleased 1.x versions, so
long as we also package/ship the old version (they're entirely different APIs,
so technically there's no the same problems we have with Guava or Jackson).
