So, WAL goes bad, we abandon it and replay unacked edits into new file.

bq. ....if we failed to close the WAL file current being written , it is likely 
that we are considered dead on master.

So, we should not be writing a new file that is subsequent to the WAL that 
broke and that we cannot reach anymore? If we 'lose' a WAL -- can't write it or 
close it -- then we should not start a new one?
