Ok. Finished a review. I didn't go too deep. Looks good to me. +1.
How hard to backport this to branch-1?
Tried running ITBLL w/o async provider and we fail w/ a smallish size in master
branch... which makes it hard to test this patch. Let me see if I can figure
what this master failing is about. Meantime, I'd say commit is good. Maybe
wait a few days in case someone else wants to take a look.
