Per the emphasis i added to the above quote, we won't support step (4) in our
release guidelines today.
bq. I will say that there is some onus on our users who might simply want BZIP2
compression and now need to assume the "risk" of a minor upgrade.
Or to control their own exposure by building from v1.1.x + this patch. It's a
very simple patch and is highly likely to apply cleanly for the remaining
lifetime of the 1.1.x line.
I'm sorry, there's no compromise that makes everyone happy here. We're either
semver or we aren't. We either adhere to our own guidelines or we don't.
