That's the direction I'm thinking, yes. The difference is that this is a bigger 
project which hasn't been thoroughly thought through/designed (ie, which data 
types are supported, what operations in addition to increment are supported, 
&c). Perhaps it's better to go forward with your attached implementation and we 
can address the larger designed if/when they materialize.
