Fair enough.
Phoenix fixed one instance of this by taking the stats-update process
asynchronous (so it's a thread spawned at startup, which is running as the
system user). There's a remaining problem with splits and the local index
updater, for that we should do the saving-the-current-user-and-do-doAs fix as
you said. [~samarthjain], [~giacomotaylor].
On the other hand this is broken since 0.98.16 (Nov '15) and nobody noticed(!)
Might be OK to just "fix" it now (if we agree that that is the fix).
