[~esteban] found a behavior change in the hbase shell due to the change in
error handling. v6 fixes it. (and takes into account other recently landed
patches).
I'm posting here to get a precommit job working through it. When esteban
creates the new issue with the issue that came up, I'll move this to the new
issue and close this out (and close out the attempt to backport to 1.x in lieu
of a new jira since the original was commited back in june/july)
