Xuesen Liang commented on HBASE-15432:
--------------------------------------

How about to reuse 'SCAN_COLUMN_FAMILY'?

For example, the following code in
org.apache.hadoop.hbase.mapreduce.TableInputFormat

{code}
if (conf.get(SCAN_COLUMN_FAMILY) != null) {
  scan.addFamily(Bytes.toBytes(conf.get(SCAN_COLUMN_FAMILY)));
}
{code}

can be replaced by

{code}
for (String cf : conf.getTrimmedStrings(SCAN_COLUMN_FAMILY)) {
  scan.addFamily(Bytes.toBytes(cf));
}
{code}

It is totally compatible.

> Currently Hbase TableInputFormat class has SCAN_COLUMN_FAMILY and
> SCAN_COLUMNS. SCAN_COLUMN_FAMILY can only scan single column family. If we
> need to scan multiple column families from a table then we must use
> SCAN_COLUMNS where we must provide both columns and column families which is
> not a convenient. Can we have a SCAN_COLUMN_FAMILIES which supports scan of
> multiple column families.
