this would be a backport for HBASE-15222, HBASE-12133, and HBASE-16146, right?
what's the risk / downside? Have we gotten some operational feedback written
down that shows metrics as a pain point? (I've heard through the grapevine a
bit, but it's hard to rely on that as a matter of transparency.)
